Apple HomePod (2023)

Apple after discontinuing the HomePod in 2021 during the pandemic has suddenly reversed course and debuted an all new model of the HomePod. By the outside appearance it looks like the same chasis as before with the same two colorway options. The unit does has some different internals and features this time around and a starting price of $299.99.

From initial reports the HomePod still has outstanding sound similar to the original, and very good bass response for pop and more modern music. This still being true despite the tweeters being reduce from seven to five. Seven may have been overkill in the original product, but this is likely just an attempt to reduce the units overall cost. The unit also has the same four inch woofer which provides the excelent bass response which is unchanged.

The new HomePod sports tempature and humitidy sensors not found in the original unit which open up some new posibilities for home automation, and Siri can now recognize six distinct voices which comes in handy for larger families when placed in the den or a common space.

Overall this unit seems to measure up to the unit of old and provides a way to buy the unit for those that missed out on its iniital run. The price of $299.99 might still scare of some buyers, but these speakers really do sound amazing and hold their own against other major wireless speakers like Sonos.
